Hand Eczema Treatment Over The Counter

Hand Eczema Treatment Over The Counter

I have had eczema for the past 46 Years and my son has had eczema for 19 Years, we both have eczema all over our body. Having eczema on certain parts of the body can be treated and nobody would know anything about it. However, having eczema on your hands is very difficult to deal with for a number of reasons. That’s why we have written this article on ‘ Hand eczema treatment over the counter ‘ To try and help you deal with the practical side of treating eczema on your hands. The other side of this condition is the psychological side which is much harder to treat.

Im Not Holding Your Hand!

Im Not Holding Your Hand!

When I was younger having eczema on my hands was horrible! At school, I can remember days where you had to line up in the classroom and on school trips where you had to hold hands with other children. I know that children don’t know what they’re saying and they don’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings but I can still remember children saying to me ‘Err I’m not holding your hand its old‘ and ‘ You have grandad hands‘ 40 years later I can still hear those words and I’m taken back in my mind to a time that really hurt my feelings.

After those hard times I ended up being really paranoid about my hands, I would dread having to shake anyone’s hands or show them to anyone. It filled me with dread and fear that someone would comment on them.

As we get older people don’t comment as much, But I do still get odd looks and the odd comment of how old they look. It comments like that why I wrote this article ‘Hand eczema treatment over the counter

Why do you wear gloves?

The physical side of having eczema on your hands is all about caring for them, the worst thing that affects mine is  cold and physically using them too much I.E : Gardening, washing up too much ( I try getting out of that by saying my hands are sore) It doesn’t work Ha Ha and just general wear on tear from work.

So to protect my hands I wear gloves all the time, anything from driving, walking outside and even at work. My job involves a lot of physical lifting and opening boxes which dries my hands out quickly. They can soon turn sore and start to split open and especially at the end.

I WROTE AND ARTICLE ON THIS. ‘Can you use super glue on eczema cracks & cuts?’

At work, I can be the laughing stock on the store because I wear gloves all day even though we’re inside, but I don’t care I have to protect my hands or I will be in pain for weeks. If I don’t wear my gloves my hands will become cracked and painful ( Like they are today) Sometimes even with gloves they still flare-up and crack.

Here’s a picture of how fingers crack with eczema if I’m not careful.

how fingers crack with eczema

Once my fingers crack and my hand’s flare-up they take ages to fix and get back to normal. One hour of not protecting my hands and there wrecked for a week, and very painful.

For younger children it more important to protect their hands for other reasons like SCRATCHING! The number one enemy to anyone who suffers from eczema is scratching. It leads to so many complications like infections and flare-ups.

We recommend wearing gloves for younger children and babies to prevent scratching and protect them from irritants and the elements. We have written a review on ECZEMA GLOVES that may help you find suitable eczema gloves. ECZEMA GLOVES TO STOP SCRATCHING

How to treat eczema on your hands

There’s to main ways to care for eczema on your hands.

  • Moisturize
  • Protect

You must have a daily routine which will involve moisturizing, this is the number one way to care for eczema. Eczema causes a lack of moisture within your skin which must be replaced. You can use prescribed cream and lotions that your Doctor has prescribed and you should always follow your Doctors instructions. THEY KNOW BEST!

However, you can always use other forms of moisturizers as long as they’re not STERIOD creams which can have long-lasting side effects. Many of the best creams are Natural & Organic and should be applied daily 3-4 times a day.

This is a very important factor in controlling flare-ups and stop general irritations on the hands. You will need to protect your hands from things like: Weather, Chemicals, Wear & Tear and temperatures hot and cold.

Using gloves to protect your hands is a simple and effective way to protect them. This plus a good moisturizing cream will be enough in most cases to help treat eczema on your hands. If it’s not please consult your Doctor again.

Eczema creams I have used and still use today

I have used loads of different creams and lotions over the last 46 Years and we have used different ones on my son. Some have worked and some didn’t. I will share some of the best creams that I found worked on me. Please remember that everyone is different and what worked for me might not work for you. ( Hopefully, they will )

As your skin changes and gets older your body will react differently to the creams so you will need to keep changing what you use daily. When I was a teenager I used nothing but JOHNSONS PINK BABY LOTION and it had to be the Pink one. I know that’s strange but the White version just didn’t work for me. Today I can’t stand that cream touching my skin.

That’s why you need to keep trying different creams to find the one that works best for you.

Here’s a selection of some of the best creams available on AMAZON for home delivery.
