What’s The Best Eczema Cream in the World? My Personal Opinion!

What’s The Best Eczema Cream in the World? My Personal Opinion!

Best Eczema Cream

Over the past 48 Years, I have suffered from eczema ( Atopic Dermatitis) and for the past 20 Years, We have also had to manage our son’s condition which is far worse than mine.

My mother also suffered from eczema and my brothers, so It’s fair to say that we have seen and used many eczema treatments, cream, and lotions to try and manage our conditions. We have many friends who also suffer from eczema and in conversation, we often get asked as owners of this website ( Our Eczema Story ) What’s the best eczema cream in the world?

This is a really difficult one to answer as everyone is different and everyone reacts differently to treatment and creams. So I can only answer this from my own personal experience with the types of creams I have used ( over 30 types ) and the creams my son has also used.

There are many different types of creams available, some are prescription-only and some are available over the counter. Then you need to consider if the cream contains steroids which if used for prolonged periods can cause long-term side effects. Something we wish we had considered more when the Doctors prescribed our son when he was younger tube after tube of steroid filled emollients. These have caused him long-term side effects which could have been avoided.

Read our story here.

We blame ourselves for not asking enough questions when he was younger. But when your child is suffering and in pain and you’re given a cream that you know will temporally take the pain and hurt away, it’s hard not to give it to them.

If we knew then what we know now we would have gone for a safer steroid-free eczema cream or even looked into more natural remedies. Hindsight is a good thing, hey?

So as you can imagine we have tried nearly every cream on the market and prescribed by Doctors that you can think of. Some worked for a short period of time and some didn’t even work at all and made it worse. Some, however, have worked for a long time and have become or staple treatment to manage our eczema condition.

In this eczema blog, We talk about the cream that has worked best for me and also worked for well for our son. It’s the only cream that we have both found worked for both of us and not only works but works well for years and years. I have often found a cream that seemed to work but after a few months suddenly my skin seemed to react badly or not react as the case may be to using it.

But this cream has worked consistently for both of us for years now. For myself, it’s been 7/8 years since I started using it and I still love it today. I can honestly say, I don’t know where I would be without it. It has been a total lifesaver.

So What’s the best eczema cream in the world?

In my personal opinion, the best cream for eczema is Diprobase emollient cream.

Diprobase – The Best Eczema Cream

Diprobase is an emollient, moisturizing protective cream used for dry skin and other skin conditions like eczema. It helps to hydrate and soothe itchy skin. Its main purpose is to lock in moisture and prevent moisture loss from your skin. Hence the reason you become dry and itchy.

Diprobase cream

Diprobase can be used safely on adults and children and used to treat itchy, red inflamed and damaged skin caused by eczema.

If you suffer from eczema the cream can be applied before having a bath to prevent the skin from drying out even further which can often happen when you take a bath. Especially if you live in a hard water area, we have an article on this topic and you’ll be surprised what difference showering in neutral ph water can do compared to hard water, read

The hard truth about eczema’

Wikipedia explanation of dry skin and how Diprobase can help – Dry skin results from a lack of water in the outer layer of skin cells (the stratum corneum). When this layer becomes dehydrated it loses its flexibility and becomes dry, cracked and scaly and sometimes itchy. The stratum corneum contains natural water-holding substances that retain water seeping up from the deeper layers of the skin, and water is also normally retained in the stratum corneum by a surface film of natural oil (sebum) and broken-down skin cells, which slow down evaporation of water from the skin surface. Diprobase works by increasing that layer of oil.

Why I like Diprobase for treating eczema

I love using Diprobase for a number of reasons. Mainly because it eases my itching fast and one application will last for around 6 hours. There is no limit on how much you use as it does not contain harmful steroids.

It’s safe to use on all parts of the body including sensitive private areas and also on your face, lips and around the eyes. Although caution should be used around the eye as direct contact with your eye may cause irritation.

I also like it because it does not sting and can even be applied to raw, sore and open areas of the skin without it stinging. Some people may find a slight sting in and around very sensitive areas, but compared to other creams I have found it minimal and trust me I have used many different types of creams.

I also like it because it’s readily available at short notice and can be delivered from Amazon within 24 hours. So if I run out I can always get a supply fast and cost-effective. Compared to some of the small tubs of other creams you can buy that cost $25 for 25ml this bottle offers great value and will last you weeks for the same price. The tubs are available in different sizes but the one I buy is 500g and last me 2 weeks. I cream all over 2-3 times a day.

It really makes my skin feel better, some days after work I can’t wait to get home and apply a full layer of this cream. Within minutes I feel alive and back in the game!

How to use Diprobase

Always apply Diprobase as your Doctor has told you to. You should check with your Doctor or Pharmacist/GP if you are unsure. However, I personally apply mine as and when needed. My routine is to apply the cream first thing when I wake up and when I get home from work around 5 pm and finally after a bath or shower the last thing at night.

For adults and children, the cream should be applied thinly to cover the affected area completely massaging gently and thoroughly into the skin.

Top tip: Apply the cream in a downward motion, never rubbing the cream upwards against the flow of your skin. That will only lift the skin up and cause irritations and more flakey skin. gently rub the cream in a downwards motion like you’re stroking a dog.

If you forget to use your Diprobase cream at your usual time then simply apply it as soon as you can and then try to get back into your normal routine. Silly as this may sound but your skin will get used to the times to cream and if you miss one you’ll soon start to feel dry and in need of a good layer of cream applying. If I forget mine I normally start to feel dry and uncomfortable within 30-45 minutes.

If your symptoms persist or get worse after using any cream or lotions you should stop immediately and consult your Doctor or GP.

We also found this cream worked really well on our son if applied after a bath or shower whilst the skin was still warm and wet. This really seemed to help him sleep better at night and reduced his itching dramatically. Sleep deprivation in eczema sufferers is a total nightmare. There is nothing worse than being kept up all night by your eczema itching. You then scratch all night, open up the skin which can then lead to infection which takes weeks to cure and is very painful.

Diprobase

What’s in Diprobase

Diprobase cream contains the following but is steroid-free which is my only concern, as they can lead to longterm side effects and issues further down the road.

  • White soft paraffin
  • Cetrostearyl Alcohol
  • Liquid paraffin
  • Macrogol Cetostearyl ether
  • Chlorocresol
  • Sodium Dihydrogen Phosphates
  • Sodium Hydroxide
  • Phosphoric acid and purified water

Is Diprobase a steroid cream or lotion?

NO. It is totally safe to use and contains no steroid components and has no active ingredients. So it will not cause you any long-term side effects.

Possible Side Effects

Like all medications, Diprobase can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them and I certainly haven’t seen or had any myself, neither has my son.

Possible reactions could be, itching, rash, redness, peeling, pain, dryness and skin inflammation. However, these are just precautions listed on the tub and the cream is designed to cure these types of symptoms so it very rare that you will get any side effects from using this cream. However, everyone is different so apply a small sample to a small area the first time you use it and look for any reactions.

Prices and Sizes available and where to buy

Diprobase is available from your doctor or GP. However, it is also safe and legal to buy from online stores as it is not a prescripted only product. It is available over the counter in most Chemists and Pharmacy.

We get ours from the Doctor but also buy it from AMAZON when we run out as they are quicker to deliver and cheap.

Final Thoughts

Diprobase is just one of many eczema creams on the market today designed to ease your eczema and dry skin in mind. None of these creams are eczema cures as currently there is no cure for eczema, but they will help relieve the itching.

Which one you use is entirely up to you and like we have said before may people react differently to different creams. Also as you get older your skin changes, so what might work now may not work when you’re older.

When I was 15-21 I used Johnson Pink baby lotion, and yes it has to be the pink one as the same white cream just didn’t work. But, as I got older it stopped working for me and I change to another cream. It’s weird how your body changes and reacts as you get older.

Now it’s Diprosabas all the way for me and nothing comes close to giving me the same results I see using this Diprobase cream.

If you’re searching for a cream for a baby you may want to read our article called ‘ Top 10 creams for babies with eczema‘ it has some more creams that are suitable for very young babies and small children. Diprobase can also be used on babies and young children but you are best to seek advice from your Doctor before doing so.

Good luck finding a cream the works for your eczema.

Let us know which cream you use and if you have tried Diprobase and how it worked for you.

What’s the difference between a cream and a moisturizer?

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a Moisturizer, cream or lotion?

Well, A moisturizer is used for increasing the moisture in your skin and your body whereas cream blocks and prevents the moisture loss. A cream is an emulsifying agent used for topical applications.
Moisturizer is absorbed into the skin as it is derived from plant extracts, oils, and other nutritional components.
Creams can be used for many applications, vanishing or moisturizing creams, pharmaceutical creams, etc.

How did we research our Top 10 Creams & Moisturizers?

If you’ve been on our website before you’ll know that I have been treating my eczema for over 47 Years and also managing our son’s severe eczema for the past 20 Years.

We have a large social media following and Facebook page where we all share information and experiences. Read one of our guest blogs here.

We have thousands of comments and feedback from our followers who are all parents of eczema sufferers, who have shared their results from using all the different types and makes of creams and moisturizers available online and over the counter.

We are not backed or sponsored by any company, therefore we can be totally impartial and honest. All the products we have recommended should be treated as a means to manage your babies eczema. They will not cure their eczema, unfortunately.

There is no known cure for eczema and you should always take our advice lightly and not as medical advice. We simply give you options to help reduce their itching and prevent flare-ups. Always speak to your Doctor or Dermatologist before applying any new creams or moisturizers.

What is eczema?

The word eczema comes from the Greek word “ekzein” which means “to boil.”

Eczema (Atopic dermatitis) is a dry skin condition. It’s a very individual condition which can vary from person to person and severity. It is not contagious so you cannot catch it from someone else.

In mild cases of eczema, the skin is dry, scaly, red and itchy. In more severe cases there may be weeping, crusting and bleeding. Constant scratching causes the skin to split and bleed and also leaves it open to infection.

Eczema affects Primarily children most of who grow out of the condition during early childhood, some may, unfortunately, see it recur again in later life. There are people like myself who never grew out of it and have to manage their condition daily to prevent it from affecting their lives every day.

This is an ongoing battle and can affect their physical health and mental state.

Diagnosing baby eczema

The number one giveaway that your baby has eczema is itchy, red, inflamed skin. In older children over 24 Months old, eczema often has secondary telltale signs. Hayfever, patches of red itchy skin behind the knees, armpits, and around the neck are all signs that your baby might have eczema.

A history of dry skin in the family could increase the chance of your child having eczema. If you think your child might have eczema then please seek medical advice as soon as possible.

Don’t guess and don’t rely on friends and family to diagnose your babies condition. Eczema has many forms and all need specific treatments way to control the condition. The skin is a complex organ which is hard to read and sometimes control so don’t take any chances. Seek medical advice as soon as you suspect anything is wrong.

Final Thoughts

We hope you liked our Top 10 Creams for babies with eczema products. Remember every person is different and eczema can be tricky to treat. So what works for one person may not work for others.

I have used Diprobase for years and I love it, but some people when I tell them I use this say. Why? It didn’t work for us.

One thing we have learned over the years is never reject anything until you’ve tried it. It’s easy to judge something on what other people say but you need to see how the product will react on your skin.

Yes, Organic and natural is best but sometimes you need that bit of extra boost in your treatment when you have a flare-up. Just stay away from Steroid filled creams.

They can and will do longlasting damage not only to your skin but to other areas of your body. My son took them when he was younger, as we were told by the Dermatologist that it was the only way to treat his skin.

We didn’t know any better at the time and just wanted his skin to instantly look better without thinking of the long-term effects.

How we regret doing that!

We hope you find something that will help your babies eczema. Please lets us know what you currently use and if you’ve tried any of the products in our Top 10 Eczema Creams.

How To Treat Eczema On Your Face

How To Treat Eczema On Your Face

Suffering from eczema on your face is not only physically hard to treat but it can also be mentally challenging to deal with.

Eczema (Atopic dermatitis) has many different forms but all are difficult to treat on your face. Your face is one of the easiest parts of the body to cream as you don’t need to get undressed or be in the privacy of your own home to apply your treatment. However, your face is also open and more susceptible to the elements and needs more care than other parts of the body.

Flare-up on your face Verses Daily eczema facial care

The exact cause of eczema is unknown, experts and researchers believe environment and genetics both play a part in causing eczema. Something triggers the immune system which affects the protective barrier of the skin which then becomes dry, sensitive, and irritated. Eczema isn’t curable, but certain elements can make the symptoms worse, anything including allergens such as dust, household products like soap or synthetic fibers, cold weather, or stress. How to treat eczema on your face is all about being in as much control over your eczema as possible.

If you don’t control any one of these elements, temprature, moisture, contact irritants and chemical reactions then you could end up with an eczema flare-up which is a Nightmare to deal with emotionally and physically and can take weeks to overcome.

Treating your eczema daily and having a consistent routine is the key to managing eczema, I say managing eczema because even the best creaming routine won’t cure your eczema.

Eczema treatments to help manage eczema on your face

There are thousands of different treatments available online or over the counter that claim to cure eczema. If a product says ‘ CURES ECZEMA ‘ then I would stay away from it.

Whichever cream you try, please make sure you always check with your Doctor or GP before applying to your skin. You also need to make sure the cream or Lotion contains no dyes, fragrance, masking fragrance, lanolin, parabens, formaldehyde or steroids. All these ingredients can cause long-term health issues.

Unfortunately, we have made this mistake with our son, the overuse of one particular cream that contained Steroids has now caused him health issues and affected hormone growth through his teenage years. ( As if the poor lad didn’t have enough to worry about dealing with eczema )

Natural v Organic is another misconception, some companies will play the Natural & Organic card but never believe their marketing scams. This isn’t to say all companies are lying and we would always recommend using the most Natural and Organic treatments available.  Always take the list of ingredients to your Doctor and check with them or your dermatologist, you can’t be too careful when it comes to How to treat eczema on your face.

Avoid Foods that trigger eczema

Certain foods can worsen your eczema. Keeping a food diary of what you eat can help you identify which foods cause eczema flare-ups. If you experience a flare-up after eating a certain food, remove the food from your diet. If your eczema improves, the food may be a trigger food and should be avoided at all costs. Common food triggers include eggs, soy, milk, wheat and nuts. Please consult your Doctor before making significant dietary changes.

Which eczema facial cream have we tried and approve?

I have used many creams throughout my 46 years of treating eczema and one of the best creams that worked on my face was Vanicream Skin Cream. I used it for over 10 Years and I only stopped when my Doctor would not prescribe it for free anymore. So I had to find another cream that worked just as well, I found Diprobase works as good and my Doctor would prescribe it. So I changed but I honestly thing Vanicream Skin Cream was good if not slightly better than Diprobase.

If you click any of the links above they will take you to AMAZON where you can purchase Vanicream and Diprobase and if you purchase them we will earn a small affiliate commision that helps us run the ECZEMA SUPPORT WEBSITE. So we thank you for using the links.

The only downside of Vanicream verses Diprobase is that Vaniceam is slightly thicker and a bit harder to apply to your face. Other than that Vanicream is great on the face.
